Situated in the extraordinary Aburrá Valley of The Andes, Medellín is surrounded by immense mountains with beautiful vistas aplenty. Medellín is a luxuriously green city of a comfortable size, a population of 2.5 million people makes this the second largest city in Colombia. It is a developing city with an excellent climate, and a highly efficient transport system. Medellin is also now one of the safest cities in Latin America.

The People that live in Medellín are some of the friendliest in the world and with the clearest and most grammatically correct form of Spanish. For this, Medellín is considered the capital of the New Grammer of Spanish in the world. You can be sure that learning Spanish in Medellín will be fast, easy and fun.

Medellín was founded in 1616 by the Spaniard Francisco Herrera Y Campuzano as Poblado de San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence Town) in what is known currently as El Poblado, the area in which you can find our school.

Surely one of the first things that you will notice upon your arrival is the outstanding weather. Medellín has the nickname of City of Everlasting Spring (Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera), and for good reason. All year round the climate is constantly warm and welcoming. Situated at 1,500m above sea level the city is not as hot as the surrounding area, and a variety of climates can be found within just an hours drive thanks to the mountainous region in which it is situated.

Colombia is the only country in South America with coastlines on both the North Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Lying to the south of Panama, Colombia controls the land access between Central and South America. With Panama to the north, Colombia is surrounded by Venezuela to the east, Brazil to the southeast, and Ecuador and Peru to the south west. The country was named in honor of Christopher Columbus, following the Italian version of his name (Cristoforo Colombo)

Throughout Colombia you can find many different types of climate, from a tropical climate along the coasts and eastern plains, to a colder climate up in the highlands of the Andes. Thankfully Medellin is just in the middle of the extreems with an "everlasting spring" climate.

Colombia became independent from Spain in 1810. It was one of the five countries liberated by Simon Bolivar (the others being Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru and Bolivia). Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Panama then formed the first Republic of Colombia. Ecuador and Venezuela declared their independence from Colombia in 1830. Panama declared its independence from Colombia in 1903 with the support of the United States of America. A 40-year communist insurgent campaign to overthrow the Colombian Government escalated during the 1990s, funded in part by the drug trade.

Contrary to popular opinion Colombia is no longer a dangerous place to live or visit. The violence of the 1990s is long behind the people of Colombia and now you will greeted by some of the warmest and friendliest people in Latin America.

Getting to Colombia couldn't be easier with cheap flights from both Europe (Madrid) and the United States of America (Miami).
